Japan Stunned by Brazil as Late Winner Ends World Cup Journey

Brazil fought back from a goal down to defeat Japan 2-1, eliminating the Asian side from the FIFA World Cup North America in the Round of 32.

Japan made a dream start by taking the lead in the first half and looked organized defensively. However, Brazil gradually took control after the break, forcing Japan deep into its own half before scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner.

The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Kaishu Sano intercepted a misplaced pass from Brazilian defender Danilo near midfield. Driving forward with confidence, Sano fired a low strike from outside the penalty area that slipped beyond goalkeeper Alisson, giving Japan a surprise advantage.

Brazil struggled to respond before halftime as Japan remained disciplined and dangerous on the counterattack.

After the interval, Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti adjusted his team's approach by relying more on aerial attacks. The tactical change quickly paid off when Casemiro headed home a cross from Gabriel Magalhães in the 56th minute to level the score.

Moments later, Vinícius Júnior produced a brilliant run from midfield before unleashing a powerful long-range effort. Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki reacted superbly, pushing the ball onto the post to keep the score level.

Despite Japan's determined defensive display, Brazil eventually found the decisive goal in stoppage time to seal a 2-1 comeback victory and book its place in the Round of 16, where it will face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs. Norway match on July 6. The five-time world champions remain on course in their pursuit of another World Cup title.
